CNN —German soccer authorities will redesign the number “4” on the country’s national jerseys amid claims it resembles a logo used by Nazi paramilitary units. The DFB unveiled Germany’s new uniforms, which will be worn by both men’s and women’s teams, in late March. Less than two weeks ago, the DFB announced that Nike will take over from Adidas as the German soccer team’s official shirt supplier from 2027. Adidas has produced the country’s jerseys since the 1950s, during which time the men’s team (either as Germany or West Germany) has claimed four World Cups. The logo was so widely used at the time that some German typewriters were produced with a stylized “SS” key.

CNN —Black History Month, which gets underway this week, is a chance to give Americans the timely reminder that you can’t teach our history honestly without understanding Black struggle and triumph. There are few aspects of America’s past that haven’t been impacted by conscientious Black people and their resistance to systemic racism and illiberal democracy. The situation at Harvard has been made more dire by the university’s failure to push back sufficiently against broader political attacks. Another vocal critic of Penslar is the former Harvard president Lawrence Summers, who was also an outspoken opponent of Gay’s. As an academic institution, we should be leading the resistance to these assaults on higher education, not bowing to them.

A video clip showing North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson’s address at a 2023 Moms for Liberty summit has been cropped to appear as though he endorsed multiple 20th century dictators in his remarks. Mark Robinson (R) says dictators like Hitler, Stalin and Mao are being taken out of context and promotes reading their writings. Hitler followed that by ordering leftist leaders sent to concentration camps or assassinated, as explained in the Britannica article. Currently serving as Lieutenant Governor for North Carolina (here), Robinson joined the state’s gubernatorial race in April 2023 (here). The video clip shared with a claim that it shows Mark Robinson endorsing dictators omits context.

A Nazi sympathizer who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021 was sentenced to 4 years in prison. Timothy Hale-Cusanelli in May was found guilty of five charges related to the siege. At least 919 people have been arrested in connection to the siege and nearly 400 people have pleaded guilty. McFadden also castigated Hale-Cusanelli, saying he believed that the defendant's antisemitic, racist, and sexist beliefs, in part, led Hale-Cusanelli to the Capitol on January 6. Following the siege, Hale-Cusanelli described the experience as "exhilarating" and said he was "hoping for a civil war," according to prosecutors.
